Archeologist Geoff Emberling has been working on the site of El Kurru in northern Sudan for years. Each trip to Sudan results in more excavation of the site and parts which are being rebuilt. The preservation of this site includes the pyramid burials of the kings of Kush who conquered Egypt around 725-650 BC.
I have been working in collaboration with designer Franc Nunoo-Quarcoo to create a wayfinding system for the site which receives hundreds of visitors each week. The system aims to provide opportunities to present information to the visitors without being obtrusive to the site itself. We have been considering the material and production of signage as well as how to present the information in two languages, Arabic and English.
